The Welcome Hills

from £40.00

This commission piece was an exploration of symbolism to represent a family living near the Wetlands of Walthamstow in London. A companion piece to ‘Return To The Welcome Hills’, the title refers to the area, which was recorded in 1075 as ‘Wilcumstowe’ meaning The Place Of Welcome. The circular mid section could be the canopy of the tree or a celestial body. I enjoyed experimenting with hidden meanings that were personal to the family.

A Giclée print is a high quality archival inkjet print. The word Giclée (pronounced ‘Jee-Klay’ with a soft J), comes from the French verb ‘gicler’ meaning ‘to squirt, spurt, or spray’. In average daylight conditions, the print has a life expectancy of 80 years. In dark storage archival conditions, life expectancy is 200 years!
